Horizons (expanding and contracting)

John: Here, sit down. Just listen. Some of it’s good.
Me: And some of it’s rap.
John: It’s not all what you think. You just haven’t been exposed to the right stuff.
Me: Okay.
John presses play on his media player and I listen for about two minutes.
Me: Did he just say he threw her against a wall?
John: Alright, fine. This is a really bad example. It’s on random, just click next.
I click on the “next” arrow button. Song starts, sounds familiar.
Me: Did he just say he grabs her by the neck?
John: Uggh! This is the same song. This a horrible example and a shitty random. Forget it, put on Modest Mouse.
Me: Yay!

Read to lyrics to Aesop Rock’s “No Regrets”. Good hip-hop, good message. Though by now it’s also pretty old, as I listened to him in high school.

Ha! Yeah, I’m really attracted to a lot of things about rap/hip-hop, but the misogyny is a huge turn-off.
